Vandanmedu

Coming to the old buildings of Vandanmedu, we can't miss the former anchel office that means post office. Constructed in the early 20th century, this anchel office is considered to be one of the first post offices build by the British during their time. It was in 1892, the first post office in the Idukki district was formed. It was in the Devikulam estate. All these post offices were used by the British to have official communication between the British officials and plantations here. History says that in the 19th and 20th centuries, more Tamil workers were employed in the plantations of Vandenmeedu, as it was easily connected to the Madras Presidency. Records say that, the village office of Vandenmedu was once the administrative office of the Travancore kings. We all know that then the Travancore Kingdom comprised of most of the parts of the southern Kerala along with the Kanyakumari district and also southernmost pat of the Tamil Nadu.
